AMSA Committees
AMSA has several committees assembled by the board of directors to oversee the various aspects of the organization. These committees consist of a director and if needed associate director(s) who are appointed by the Board of Directors.
Activity
The Activity Committee is responsible for coordination and execution of all functions required for AMSA hosting the annual Gala, Camporee and BoD Christmas dinner. This includes obtaining sponsors, contract negotiations, advertising, budget accountability and coordinating with vendors and other committees as required to help ensure a successful event.

Annual Expo
The EXPO committee is responsible for the coordination and execution of all activities required to host the AMSA Annual EXPO Show. These activities include contract negotiation, selling and advertising, staffing, budget accountability, and coordinating with vendors and other committees as necessary to ensure a successful show.
Bylaws
The Bylaws Committee is the parliamentarian of the organization. This committee continually monitors the evolution of AMSA and ensures the bylaws are in line with the mission and operations of AMSA. This committee also monitors the adherence of the bylaws to help ensure the Board of Directors are following and enforcing the bylaws fairly. From time to time, bylaws need to be modified as gaps and issues arise that the current operational procedures or bylaws do not address. In such case the Bylaws Committee researches the issue or gap identified and recommends a corrective action to the AMSA Board of Directors.
Fishing Tournament
The Fishing Tournament Committee manages all the activities required to sponsor the four main fishing events annually. These responsibilities include, advertising, budget accountability, monthly reporting, coordinating with vendors, sponsors, the National Park Service and other committees as necessary to help ensure a successful event.

Jr. Membership
The Junior Membership Committee is responsible for the coordination and execution of all activities sponsored by AMSA for the benefit of it’s junior membership. This committee will coordinate a minimum of one event per year for the junior members. It will also monitor, record and report all community service hours for all junior members participating in community service activities hosted by AMSA’s Safety Patrol. Junior members have the opportunity to participate in activities such as Take-a-Kid Fishing to help teach other kids how to surf fish. This helps build confidence and leadership abilities in our junior members and teach visitors to Assateague what AMSA is about and what a treasure surf fishing can be.
Legislative
The Legislative Committee’s mission is to provide oversight on Federal, State and Local issues affecting recreational fishing and beach access to Assateague Island National Seashore, to represent AMSA in affiliate organizations, work closely with the Assateague Island National Park Service for the continued improvement and enjoyment of Assateague Island and to maintain and provide the necessary representation to help preserve Sportsman’s Rights.
Newsletter
AMSA publishes a quarterly newsletter as a primary communications medium to its members. This committee collects information from all committee chairs and Assateague Island National Park Service to distribute timely information to all members. This committee is responsible for obtaining information for the newsletter, selling advertisements, scheduled creation and mailing of the newsletter.
Property Management
Safety Patrol
The AMSA Safety Patrol is responsible for the coordination and execution of activities focused on AMSA event safety, community service and the annual March of Dimes event participation. The Safety Patrol attends all AMSA sponsored events and is the initial point of contact for event participants.This committee also acts the interface with cooperating clubs and agencies at various events.
The Safety Patrol Committee coordinates and executes bi-annual clean up events on Assateague Island and the Adopt-a-Road program. AMSA sponsors a portion of MD ST RT 611 leading to Assateague Island. This committee coordinates with other clubs and organizations to assist with community projects and create partnerships with said organizations.
John Welch is now in charge of The Safety Patrol and one upcoming function that will need help from the Safety Patrol is the Camporee.

Supplies
The Supplies Committee is responsible for all merchandising of AMSA products, logo items and vendor relations. This committee ensures merchandise is available for various events and acts as a single point of contact for other committee needing AMSA products on sponsored events. This committee is responsible for budget accountability, customer service, stocking, shipping and advertising of AMSA products.
